New logo: Terpel


Terpel is a major Colombian oil and gas company, the largest fuel distributor in the country. This week, it unveiled a new corporate identity, developed by independent brand agency CBX. It will be launched with a gradual update of its stations network. It should be associated with values such as proximity, dynamism, modernism, service, technology, familiarity, uniqueness, solidity and reliability.

The previous logo was introduced in 2006 as an update of the sun logo used up until then. This is allegedly the fourth logo makeover in the company's history.

New logo: El Dorado Airport


The El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá is the largest airport in Colombia. In late August, the company that manages the airport unveiled a new airport logo. Colombian media are reporting that it was created by Vladimir Flórez, a.k.a. Vladdo. Although known in Colombia as a cartoonist and satirist, he has a background in graphic design.

The logo has caused much discussion, both in the form of serious critique from fellow designers and less serious internet ridicule, including a dedicated Tumblr page.

New logo: Carulla


Carulla is a Colombian supermarket chain that traces its roots back 1905. Today it is a part of the Éxito group and includes about 76 supermarkets. At the beginning of this week Carulla announced a new visual identity which officially launches tomorrow, April 27, in twelve selected stores.

Carulla has traditionally used a green oval as its logo, although it was removed a couple of years ago. This redesign reinstates it and introduces a modern script wordmark, where the double-L has been turned into a smile.

The Colombian agency Smartbrands were behind the redesign. They wanted to emphasize Carulla's friendly attitude and captivate young audiences with a contemporary and attractive identity.

New logo: Banco Caja Social


The Colombian financial group BCSC was formed some years ago from the merger of Banco Caja Social and Banco Colmena (colmena meaning "hive"). The two bank networks did however continue to operate under separate brands until this week, when they united under one common name, Banco Caja Social.

The rebrand introduces a new pointsymmetric symbol made up of red and blue spots. It is heavily used in ads and on the new website.
