New logo: FSE Energy

FSE Energy is an American company that manufactures equipment to extract biomass fuel. Until December last year it was known as Factory Sales & Engineering, Inc. when it was rebranded and adopted a new corporate identity, created by MetaDesign in San Francisco.

The previous name and the humdrum logo that accompanied it conveyed an image of a small family-owned company. The new identity is more on par with FSE's competitors. The icon is "a contemporary abstraction of flame", depicting "the transfer of biomass to fuel through fire".

New logo: Konzerthaus Berlin

The Konzerthaus Berlin is a concert hall in Berlin. Originally opened in 1821 as a theatre, it was rebuilt for its current purposes in the 1980s. On Monday, May 7, the concert hall unveiled its programme for 2012/13 season, and also took the opportunity to introduce a new visual identity, created by MetaDesign. Billboards sporting the new look can be seen around Berlin.

The new logo is an evolution of the concert hall's previous logo, which featured a blurry spot, taken from a musical note. With the new look, the spot has been sharpened and includes the name of the hall written with two contrasting typefaces, one roman and one sans serif. The rest of the identity is described as "lively, approachable and surprising", employing a bright colour range.

New logo: KfW

KfW, a German government-owned development bank, launched a new corporate identity this week, created by MetaDesign in Düsseldorf.

The previous dotted logo with its lowercase letters has been replaced by a simple uppercase wordmark with some stencil characteristics, apparently somewhat inspired by its predecessor. KfW says the new logo conveys "clarity, sovereignty and power".

New logo: SES

The Luxembourg-based global satellite operator SES presented a new corporate identity today, September 9, at the IBC trade show in Amsterdam. This will see the company give up its regional names, SES Astra and SES New Skies, to use to SES name for all regions. It does however seem like the Astra name will be retained for some consumer-facing purposes, especially in Germany.

Previous logo.

The symbol in the previous logo was first seen in the late 1980s when it was used for the company's first Astra satellite. It then featured a lot of arches, symbolising signals reaching earth from space. The number of arches was later reduced to one. In 2001, Société Européenne bought General Electric's satellite division GE Americom, and the name SES Global was adopted for the new parent company. The Gill Sans typeface was adopted at the same time. The 'Global' part was dropped some years later.

The new logo removes the last arch, leaving a tiny triangle next to the SES wordmark, which uses a modified version of the Allumi typeface. A less modified version version of Jean François Porchez' Allumi is used as SES's new corporate typeface.

New logo: Intrax

Intrax, a company that provides global educational programs, like foreign exchange students, au pairs and language education, has introduced a new corporate identity. It was created by MetaDesign in San Francisco.

Previous logo.
From a press release sent out by MetaDesign:
"MetaDesign worked with the executive team and leadership of marketing and sales to develop the essence of the Intrax brand, architecture of the brand portfolio and a new visual identity system representing the concept of "connections".

The logo features a customized typeface with distinct inflections that demonstrate ‘connections’. The most prominent feature of the logo is the letter “x,” from which an arrow shape has been derived and assigned a complementary color. This arrow symbolizes the personal and professional direction, as well as the forward-looking outlook, that Intrax program participants gain.

A highly systemic and versatile design system was developed in conjunction with the logo. An angular graphic device reiterates the concept of connections and direction, giving the brand a dynamic and compelling visual language."
Two of the programs offered by Intrax (Ayusa and AupairCare) have visual identities that match Intrax, and they have maintained that link.
