Nova became the third TV channel to receive a national broadcasting license in Bulgaria in 2003. In 2008, Nova was bought by the Swedish Modern Times Group (MTG), who previously owned 50 percent of a minor multichannel broadcatser called Diema. The Nova Television group in its current form was created in 2009 when MTG consolidated its Bulgarian assets into one integrated company. Diema's music channel MM has since been replaced by a sports channel called Nova Sports, and Diema's primary channel has been positioned as a channel for men. This latest rebrand sees the secondary Diema channel, Diema 2, replaced by a movie channel called KinoNova.
An official release from Nova Television credits two broadcast design agencies for the new look, DMC Group from Austria and Dream On from France. They don't specify who did what, but given these two agencies have dones for MTG in the past, one can perhaps assume that DMC are behind the new logos and that Dream On created new channel idents.
The previous logos for the Diema channels were adopted back in September 2007, some months after the channels had been acquired by MTG. They were also created by DMC, and their style was similar to the logos used by MTG's Viasat channels in other European countries.
