San Marino is a small sovereign state located in Northern Italy, entirely surrounded by Italian land. It is one of five European "microstates" that have survived as remnants from a time when much Europe was governed by small entities, the others are Andorra, Liechtenstein, Monaco and the Vatican.
With a population of about 30,000, the state didn't get its own television station until 1993. Before that, it had to rely on Italian television. This month, the station announced that it would be broadcast on satellite for the first time from June 13, making it available to all Italians with satellite TV. At the same time, a new logo was unveiled.

Until now, the TV station has used a logo consisting of three interlocking "screens" with three squares. Without any sources to back it up, one can speculate that the shapes may be inspired by the outlines of San Marino's territory or the coat of arms, which includes three towers.
