New look: ID by Stride

ID is a new chewing gum brand launched earlier this autumn by Kraft Foods (now known as Mondelez) in the United States. Its packaging was developed by Landor Associates in Cincinnati.

Primarily targeting teens, the packaging features original artwork commissioned from young emerging artists around the world. The artwork is hidden by a transparent cellophane wrap the consumer has to remove to see the artwork. This encourages interaction that should foster a relationship with the brand. The packaging carries a "by Stride" tag, linking it to a more established gum brand.

New logo: Stimorol / Hollywood

Stimorol and Hollywood are two European chewing gum brands owned by Mondelez, which until recently was called Kraft Foods. The two brands have had the same owner since 2002, when Stimorol was acquired by Cadbury, which in turn was bought by Kraft Foods in 2010. Hollywood Chewing Gum is a classic French chewing gum brand dating back to the 1950s, while Stimorol was originally a Danish brand that is available in Scandinavia, Benelux and Switzerland.

This year, the two brands have both introduced new logos that feature a red smile, lining up with the smile logo already used by Trident in the UK.

New look: Malaco

Leaf is a European confectionery company with activites in Scandinavia, Benelux and Italy. Its portfolio includes several classic local brand that it has gathered after decades of mergers and acquistions. Recently, it has started introducing refreshed packaging for some of its classic Swedish candy brands, Zoo, Djungelvral, Fruxo, Gräddkola, Brio and PimPim, the oldest of which have existed for 80 years.

Until some years ago, they had maintained classic vintage label designs with only minor updates. These labels have a cult following and have been turned into a range of kitschy home furnishing details. A redesign in the 00s introduced a common design template and adopted Malaco as an umbrella brand, but many elements from the classic designs remained.

This more recent refresh is a more thorough redesign that gives up much of the old designs. It appears the company now wants to have a friendly mascot on the front of the package. Those brands that already had mascots have had them redesigned, and those that didn't have had new ones created. All are drawn in a similar cute style with wide-set cheeky eyes. The typeface used for the product name is Gothic 821 Condensed.

New logo: Sour Patch Kids

Sour Patch Kids is an American sour sugar candy, manufactured by Cadbury Adams, which is a part of Kraft Foods nowadays. Recently, the brand got a new packaging design and logo, created by Landor Associates in Cincinnati.

This project was mentioned on BP&O about a month ago, but I thought I'd quickly mention it anyway as I wanted share and contrast the new and the out-going logo artwork. There's more information and images available on BP&O and creative director Dale Doyle's Behance page.

The new look launched around late March or early April this year.

New look: Marabou Noblesse

Noblesse is a Swedish confectionery product consisting of thin milk chocolate plates with corn flake crumbles that add a "crispy" sensation. Introduced by Sweden's leading chocolate company Marabou about a half-century ago, it is today owned by Kraft Foods.

Last spring, Noblesse received a makeover from the Swedish design agency Silver, who had previously designed most of the packaging for Marabou's products. After some time with a more casual design featuring a hand-drawn coffee cup and friendly script wordmark, this redesign brings back some elegance and premium signals.

Previous logo.

The new design has been around at least since May this year. Some before/after pictures below.

New logo: Tutti Frutti

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Tutti Frutti is a classic Swedish candy brand. It was allegedly launched in 1921, which would make it 90 years old today. The product has gone through several changes through the years, but many Swedes probably associate the brand with small paper boxes with less than one ounce of candy in them. Over the years, the brand has expanded and the product range now includes several kinds of gummi candy in plastic bags.

Recently, a new package design was launched. At the center is a new round logo which brings the classic orange signature colour to all packaging.

The company claims the rollout started in the week of May 2.
